DETAILS
On the heels of a successful group of tours to elementary school classes in the spring of 2009, Urban Impact has scheduled a series of tours for grade five classes for Waste Reduction Week 2009, taking place next week October 19th-23rd.
Urban Impact provides tours of our Richmond Plant / Materials Recovery Facility. The tour is designed
to give elementary school students a hand’s on education of a recycling company’s part in the market
place. Our objective is to give students a clear picture and understanding of the recycling company’s
trucking, receiving, vital processing and shipping functions in the Lower Mainland.
We believe seeing what Urban Impact does in person will provide students with an added understanding of why recycling is important and critical to us all as local and global citizens. In addition to
gaining a more complete environmental understanding, students will also have a great opportunity to see
large interesting machinery at work!
The tour covers the following:
In addition, we also discuss:
Urban Impact sponsors the school tours program by paying for each school to be bussed to the facility. In the spring of 2009, Urban Impact hosted 10 schools, and during Waste Reduction Week, Urban Impact has secured up to another 10 schools to participate. The invitation is open to all Lower Mainland grade five classes to participate at various times throughout the year. The cost per day is approximately $350 dollars, which Urban Impact covers. ABOUT URBAN IMPACT
Urban Impact is a family-owned and operated business committed to environmental conservation and global responsibility. Last year the Richmond, BC-based company collected and diverted 30,000 Metric Tonnes of recyclable material from local landfills, and in 2007 was named one of the best employers in the province by BC Business Magazine.
Our Story
Urban Impact began in 1989 as a university project of founder Nicole Stefenelli who sought to prove that it was viable for commercial businesses to reduce their waste disposal costs and green their businesses by recycling. Launched as the first multi-material recycling company in the Lower Mainland, Urban Impact services 4500 locations, from Whistler to Chilliwack Recognizing that all businesses generate paper that is sensitive and confidential, Urban Shredding was established in 2004 to offer clients secure document destruction services. Sharing Urban Impact’s zero waste philosophy, most shredded materials are recycled.
Today, a combined staff of over 80 and 30 collection vehicles provide clients with complete recycling, shredding and green business consulting services from Urban Impact’s two facilities in North Richmond and New Westminster.
