Urban Impact had a great session for some staff on setting some BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals)’s and we came up with the idea of an Urban Impact event (sports, charity or other). We want to give back to the community and come up with an event that does just that and represents who we are.
First, The event has to represent who we are and what we stand for. Second, it has to give back. And thirdly, we want to raise some serious cash! What will this event be? We don’t know yet, but I am hopeful that the next few months will allow us to formulate a plan for such an event. Any bright ideas, please share! Criteria is simple (see above) and most importantly it has to rock!
I think I might have tweeted or blogged this before, so sorry for the possible repetition. Rather then giving a gift – a donation to a favourite or local charity is a wonderful carbon reduced and thoughtful gift.
I have bribed my children to accept cash for donations as birthday gifts. Although it is terribly hard for them to get their minds around not receiving the wrapped gift from their friends, they seem to accept it (as long as I promise them a birthday gift of significance) and like the attention they get when other adults applaud their generosity.
Try it, you will like it, and so will your charity of choice.
Cancer is one of those diseases that has touched us all. Each of us can likely tell a story where the human spirit and medicine triumphed over this disease, and sadly it is likely that each of us can tell a story where the disease won and stole someone away.
April is Cancer month in Canada. The Canadian Cancer Society a remarkable organization calls on us all to give generously to help battle this disease. Urban Impact is doing its part to help raise awareness. As a company we have given $5,000 on behalf of all of our employees, and we have put the CCS logo and daffodil up on our trucks. This is the first time we have put another logo or icon up on our very distinct and clean trucks, we hope that the public will notice and consider a gift or donation to this worthy organization.

Urban Impact is looking for nominations for our Charity Impact program. Each year Urban Impact looks for qualifying charities who would like to receive their recycling services for free, currently Urban Impact has a roster of over 90 charities who receive their recycling services at no cost, reducing their operating costs and leaving more money for the good works they do.
