Catalyst announced it is closing its Coquitlam Newsprint recycling mill. Truly a sad day when a local recycling mill in our back yard cannot make ends meet.
There are seveal newsprint mills in the near vacinity (WA) that seem to be having trouble. Blue Heron is in Chapter 11 and its future is certainly up for discussion.
Certificates of Diversion itemizing our clients waste reduction initiatives are in the mail this week (Jan 18). The Certificates are a summary of our clients efforts for 2009. The Certificates tell our clients the total amount of waste diverted from landfill and secondl estimate the carbon sequestered by recycling.

How about it, it really should not be that difficult!
But it is hard, remembering to wash your coffee cup and keep it in your car – it can be a bit tricky I have to admit. But honestly, it is just a matter of training yourself. It should be like turning of the lights when you leave a room, or turning down the heat at night, things that happen 2nd nature to us.
We challenged our staff at both plants to not use paper coffee cups on 2010. We hope that this is one of many green comittments we make throughout the year. Do you have any other ideas on what we can do to reduce our environmental footprint as a a team. I am open to suggestions.
