Recycling Week October 19, 2009 “Do you part and reduce your waste”
Recycling Week begins October 19, 2009 and is a great reminder to all of us to think about reducing our personal and corporate waste! In North America the average citizen produces over 1000 kgs of waste each year. Staggering! In Finland the average resident creates about 450 kgs of waste. Amazing! How can we in North America or the developed world be so wasteful? Resources are not scarse for most of us, so we use them without care (or at least with less care than others in less developed societies). I think many of us in the developed world equate consumption with wealth.
Calling all Charities for 2010!
Urban Impact is looking for nominations for our Charity Impact program. Each year Urban Impact looks for qualifying charities who would like to receive their recycling services for free, currently Urban Impact has a roster of over 90 charities who receive their recycling services at no cost, reducing their operating costs and leaving more money for the good works they do. Mandetory Recycling for Construction, Demolition and Renovation Projects
October 6 is the start of a steering committee that will be helping Metro Vancouver work through the logistics, feasibility and steps regarding a the mandetory recycling of construction, demolition and renovation projects.
Currently wood is allowed to be dumped at landfills in the Lower Mainland. I actually find it amazing that this material group has not been banned from landfills long ago.
