It is a very interesting development, the Liberals will limit the ability of Metro Vancouver to export waste in the short term. Why is this such a big deal? Well it is quite simple, with the Cache Creek landfill scheduled to close in 2010, there will be no where to send an estimated 600,000 metric tonnes of Metro Vancouver waste (that is waste that you and I create in our daily lives). Alternate plans for disposing of this waste, will likely not be available until 2015 (Waste to Energy facility) and this presents a major problem for us all. Where is the extra waste going to go?
We are thrilled to showcase our new Hybrid Recycling Truck today, at a Launch event slated for 1:00 PM. We believe the truck to be the first of its kind in Canada. It has been branded “Quiet at the Curb” which is meant to showcase, that no engine is required to run the trucks dumping system while it is parked at the curb or at a client location. The charged battery will run the hydraulic system and no diesel consumed in the process. Too cool! We are anticipating reduced operating expenses (fuel) but have a higher capital cost associated with the purchase of the vehicle. The battery system that operates the ePTO (electric Power Take off) is an expensive option for the truck @ $40,000 (or so) over and above the cost of the truck. Urban Impact is hoping to accumulate additional Hybrid trucks to our fleet.
