My family (two adults and four children) produces a lot of waste. I am curious to figure out how much. So starting August 1, 2009 I am going to weigh each garbage can we dispose of. I think in order to get a good idea on our average disposal for our family, I am going to continue the weighing for the months of August and September. Plastic bags have certainly been labelled as the current evil when you retail. I have to say I would agree, they are unnecessary if in fact you are smart enough to remember your reusable bag prior to your retail experience. I have to say, 50% of the time I am organized enough to remember the reusable and the other 50% I am not. When I am not organize enough, I am happy to say that I try and do one of the following:
On July 15, 2009 Urban Impact had a Shredathon at the Knox Plant (this is scheduled monthly usually, and through the summer months more often to accomodate more volume). The Shredathon served approximately 20 clients who dropped off their materials for shredding. Our on site Shredding truck was on site “to shred while you watch”. We managed to raise $750.00 for the event and donated the proceeds to the Richmond Food Bank Society.
Our next Shredathon is on August 4, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Richmond Plant again. The following event scheduled for August 19, 2009 will also donate all proceeds to the Richmond Food Bank Society.
Thank you to all staff for working so hard to make this such a successful event and a great fundraiser!
